*The* Race of 2009 Gets a New Date
posted 2009-06-20 13:22:07 by Offroad Syndicate
Greetings Offroad Syndicants, due to the sheer awesomeness of the 2009 Regina Singlespeed and Beater Championships and the fact that we know you just cant wait to dust off that 1992 purple anodized bike collecting dust in your garage we have moved up the date of the race to THIS WEEK (June 24th) from Canada Day. (Ulterior motive being we think some of you may have better things to do on Canada Day!)
Some of you may be new to this race so let me try to spell it out with a few simple rules (we all know that rules are meant to be )
- Singlespeeds rock
- If you dont have a singlespeed an old beater is a fine stand in. A singlespeed beater is perfect.
- Whats a beater you ask? A bike that is worth less on the street corner than a cold ½ drank double double from Timmies qualifies.
- Anything purchased from Wal-Mart definitely qualifies. Heck even a cross bike qualifies due to how bad they suck on the Wednesday night course!
- Fancy cycling gear is banned. Dress as clown like as you can dream up. Dont worry about people laughing at you, most people laugh at cyclists in lycra anyways!
- Have fun!
If somehow you dont have a beater bike, or are just too posh to ride it, please come anyways on your XTR equipped wonder-bike. It will be a good time for all. After the race well head out for some social time. Bonus here being we are all riding bikes that we can lock up (if we even need to!). It might be a good idea to bring a change of clothes though. If you can only make it to one Wednesday night race this year (you know who you are!) make sure its the 2009 Regina Singlespeed and Beater Championship!
Regards,
Kris Abrahamson

Last night I had my Trek Fuel EX8 stolen. It's black with grey highlights, bontager race seats, wheels, shimano brakes and a California repair shop sticker on the frame under the seat.
The possibilities of getting it back are slim but one can hope. I appreciate any help you guys can provide.

Check out this video from the Canmore XC race this season. You can see club members Dean Etienne (11th in Expert), Andrew Thomas (3rd in Elite), and a bunch of the Dead Goat riders we know and love.
Hey, I just wanted to pass along some info about a marathon/enduro
race at a very nice venue in Morden Manitoba coming up on June 7th.
The course is a real jewel - really fun flowing single track around a
lake.
The SCA High Performance Committee is sending a team to the Canada Cup in Edmonton on June 12-14. The trip will leave from Regina on Friday morning at 6am, pick up racers in Saskatoon at 9am and continue to Edmonton. Pre ride the course on Friday; the race is on Saturday and the return trip on Sunday.
Currently the SCA is planning to take the van only, but if there is enough interest we can attach the SCA trailer and open additional spots for SCA licensed riders to join the trip. The cost will be approximately $185 and will include transport in the SCA van from Regina to Edmonton, shared accommodations at the Lister Dorms at the University of Alberta, and race day feed support. The fee does not include food expenses or race entry.
We still require a driver for this trip, if you know of anyone interested have them contact me for details. There is an opportunity for the driver to race as well.
Please let me know by June 1 if you are interested. The spot(s) will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

Intermontane Challenge
posted November 13th, 2008 by The Intermontane Team
The Intermontane Challenge and its unique cloverleaf course design filled with epic BC single-track has drawn top talent from the US and Canada in its solo mens category. For the inaugural event on July 27 31 , 2009 top ranked US rider and former Olympian David Tinker Juarez has confirmed his participation and in his words is ready to rock n roll solo. Joining this legend in the sport is top Canadian and former Kamloops native Chris Sheppard. With the top prize of $10,000 CDN on the line for the overall win in the mens and womens solo categories the Intermontane Challenge has drawn some of the top talent in the sport. Competitive athletes have cited the advantage of not having to move from place to place, the re-assuring luxury of quality food and accommodation options and the ability to compete solo as reasons why they have chosen the Intermontane Challenge as their stage race for 2009. This same response has been echoed by the rest of the entrants as well proving that our cloverleaf course design has been worth the effort to construct. Long after the dust has settled and the event is over, local riders and tourists alike will be able to enjoy the legacy of trails that the event will have created throughout the entire riding season. With the Intermontane Challenge the race doesnt truly end on day 5, its just the beginning of something even bigger!
Joining such top talent in the racing end of the sport is another true leader in the industry side of things THULE has come on board with the Intermontane Challenge to create The Ride of the Day Award presented by THULE. This unique award will be given out each day to recognize some of the racers in the field who care more about having fun and finishing than suffering like the frontrunners! Product donated by THULE will allow everyone competing a chance to share in the glory of great day in the saddle, not just the pros. Being a world leader in finding solutions for the transport of all types of sporting equipment, THULE is also a passionate supporter of the competitive end of the sport of mountain biking. This exciting partnership also has its roots in both parties respect for the environment we have created a cloverleaf course design to minimize our impact on the environment while THULE has gone so far as adding solar panels to the roof of its Seymour, Connecticut manufacturing and office facility that will offset 26% of the total energy used! In the end we both want to have fun and have come together to show our commitment to a more responsible and sustainable form of mountain bike stage racing.
The Intermontane Challenge is 25% Sold Out and registration is open to anyone looking for 5 days of epic off-road racing set in the rugged Interior Region of British Columbia. Entries are capped at 300 total spots. Pick your category solo or team. Pack your bags once and drop them in Kamloops prior to the start of the inaugural 2009 event. Dont pack up until the race is over and youve had one of the best times ever on your mountain bike. Dont let all of the comforts of our event fool you into thinking this race is going to be easy our 5 single-track based stages will have racers begging for the finish line but cruelly wanting more! Register for the Intermontane Challenge now and get your first shot at the most challenging and unique event of 2009! Log on to our official website www.intermontanechallenge.com and click on our News area for all the details.

Dutch Cyclocross Classic
posted October 5th 2008 by Offroad Syndicate
Despite the 'unfavorable' weather (okay, it was downright ridiculous) the Dutch Cyclocross Classic was a blast. Everyone got really muddy and there were plenty of people who were happy they did it; One Saskatoon racer who hates racing in the mud and rain told me afterwards that he had fun and was glad he did it. Of course there were plenty of prizes to go around sponsored by Dutch Cycle and Kona. Thanks to our volunteers and helpers. Kris designed the course but Jeremy was out modding the course just before the race (did I mention it was muddy?). Patty Thomas, Paul Levett, Sean Kukura, Marc Quinett all came out and helped out (among others, sorry if I missed thanking you). The Regina DoubleCross weekend was pretty good overall.

White Butte Duathalon
posted September 21st, 2008 by Jay Van Ginneken
After chatting with Mark Gibson, President of Regina Multi Sport at the SCA AGM this weekend, I have registered for the Duathalon (run and bike) on Sunday, September 28th. I'd like to encourage everyone to join me.
Personally, I don't run, at least not well... and my biking has been a little 'slack' this year... But am going to try it anyway.
There is a 2.5km run, a 10km bike, and then a second 2.5km run -- It will be fun. You can also choose to do double those distances, or do it as a 'team' with one runner and a cyclist. If you are interested in more info and registering ($35) go to the multi-sport website. You MUST register by the 25th or you can't race (No race-day entry): http://www.reginamultisport.com
There is a CycloCross Race every Wednesdays at 5:45, just by the westside of the Science Center. Also on Saturday morning same place at 11:00am. there is a 30 min race and a 40 min race. Its a pretty laid back atmosphere. There is no requirement to have a cross specific bike. You are welcome to come out with your mountain bike, single speed, road bike or even your time trial bike if you like. So, if you already enjoy 'cross or want to learn, definitely check it out!
Xc8 - Saskatchewan's Most Popular Mountain Bike Race
posted September 6th, 2008 by Offroad Syndicate
Congratulations to all of our winners on and off the podium. Many thanks to our loyal out-of-province racers who kick butt every season. We shattered our previous attendance record with 123 registered racers, up from 83.
The course was tough, the weather was cool, but the good times will not be forgotten. We will be updating the xc8.ca website with more details when available.
As you'd imagine, the organizers are all a little "tired" so results and photos are a delayed. Expect photos and results by the end of Monday, Sept 8, 2008.
Wanna race XC8 on a team? Openings..
posted September 3rd, 2008 by Offroad Syndicate
The start of the Blocks Cycle XC8 is under 3 days away! But its really not too late to get involved... Registration XC8 is taking registrations until 10:00pm on Thursday night. This will save you a valuable $10 per entry whether you're a solo racer or team member.
Teams Needing Racers We have two 4-person teams seeking additional racers to fill empty spots in their roster, they just need one more member for their team. So, if you don't want to race the whole 8 hours solo, but don't have your own team, here's a great way to get into XC8.
Sask vs Alberta, Manitoba, and BC Currently, Saskatchewan racers make up only 46% of the registered racers, Alberta, Manitoba, and British Columbia are all sending racers and teams. We need to step it up, Saskatchewan! We are just about to break last year's attendance record, and XC8 is now officially the largest mountain bike race of the season.
The race course will be available for riding late afternoon to evening on Friday. Camping will be fully underway, our out of province friends will be rolling in all day. Camping is provided for all of our racers and volunteers.
If you have any questions, or want information about the teams seeking racers, please contact Jay: via email (preferred): offroadsyndicate@hotmail.com via phone: 789-5124

XC8 Joins Western Canada Enduro Series
posted February 28st, 2008 by Offroad Syndicate
The ORS is proud to annouce we have graciously accepted an invitation to have the Blocks Cycle XC8 included in the Western Canada Enduro Series. Even though the event is now part of this endurance racing series, the XC8 remains an independant event. What this means is now you can race other events in the series for points and prizes. The XC8 is the ONLY event in the series that is based outside of Alberta and BC (yes, the XC8 is *that* good).

Beaver Buzz Energy Drink has just inked a deal as the Official Energy Drink of the Blocks Cycle XC8, and you *might* just see some of this great drink in June at the Western Cycle Wascana Challenge if you're lucky! This is the true Canadian energy drink, and if you haven't tried it yet, you'll get a taste at our events this year.
